Last week's sermon: The Sign of Jonah? (link provided)
There is the initial [at time of salvation - positional] and ongoing need for true repentance [relational]. It’s the divine requirement for one to enter God’s kingdom and should be practiced by all genuine believers as needed, always turning to the Lord fully. No forgiveness of sins are granted outside of it.
Main Bible Passage:
1 John 1:9 (HCSB)
9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
“Do a thorough job of repenting. Do not hurry to get it over with. Hasty repentance means shallow spiritual experience and lack of certainty in the whole life. Let godly sorrow do her healing work. Until we allow the consciousness of sin to wound us, we will never develop a fear of evil. It is our wretched habit of tolerating sin that keeps us in our half-dead condition.”
